May Case

Lucy Cecelia May Morris Case was born in 1873 in Oklahoma. As a young girl, May was acquainted with Geronimo, Chief of the Apaches, as well as the Daltons, the Doolins, and Belle Starr. May and her husband Spurgeon S. Case were married in 1890. The couple came to Clovis in 1919. They founded and owned the Clovis Independent newspaper. In 1964, May was honored as the oldest active newspaperwoman in America with 75 years of service.
